Slum And Art Walk

Kathputli Colony is a 40,000 strong slum, but despite living in extreme poverty the families have a heritage of performing. Located in the Shadipur Depot area of Delhi, for the last 50 years it has been home to some 2,800 families of magicians, snake charmers, acrobats, singers, dancers, actors, traditional healers and musicians and especially puppeteers orkathputli-performers from Rajasthan.  This makes it world’s largest community of street performers.

In the 1980s, the artists in Kathputli gained international recognition through performances at the “Festival of India” in the U.K. in 1982 and in the United States in 1985.
